The Art of Hand Embroidery in Interiors & Décor

The Martian veil is an art installation designed and hand-embroidered by Ricamour

We love how interior designers and stylists, today, are choosing custom handwork to weave personalization into the fabric of every space- reflecting one’s personality, sensibilities and lifestyle.

From subtle tactile accents to commanding architectural statements- hand embroidery is quietly redefining luxury interiors, boutique hospitality spaces and fine art commissions. And we are here for it.

In this journal, we explore how bespoke narratives, evocative concepts and architectural intent can slowly transform raw surfaces into living art.

Architectural Scale

When embroidery moves to installations and wall coverings, it shifts the entire mood of a space.

The Martian Veil

Inspired by the mysteries of the red planet, the Martian Veil is designed to be a luxury textile art piece. It invites you to experience a terrain that is alien, yet wildly familiar-crafted with sequins, sculpted cords, ribbons, beads, chiffon appliqués and organza-wrapped pearls.

A statement piece for spaces seeking the extraordinary- a singular creation, never to be recreated.

The Pixel Flowers

This piece is crafted with individual strips of organza, stitched down by hand. And repeated… about a hundred times over.

A fabric manipulation technique that requires precise placement, and our artisans brought it to life just how we imagined it.

Pixelated flowers on a wall? It’s modern, playful and just the right amount of whimsical.

Narrative Furniture

Custom embroidery breathes life into furniture, turning functional seating and surfaces into heirloom pieces.

The Scroll-ing Chair

We custom-cut clear plexiglass as scrolls and placed them over a layer of threads. The result? A striking perception of depth. The thread colours and embroidery techniques were carefully picked to make this foundational layer look hand-painted. Finished with dramatic thread fringes that touch the floor- for drama, of course.

The Raffia Console

We took raffia in earthy shades and blended in a touch of lurex for a dash of gold. We used long stitches to make the raffia look  crinkled- an important step here. Why? For texture, of course. We loved the idea of this hand-embroidered surface set on a console- subtle, yet such a statement. Truly one-of-a-kind.

Sculptural Accents

Beyond walls and seating, embroidery introduces surprise and delight when applied to unexpected home surfaces and objects. Hand-beaded floral arrangements, lampshades, embroidered table linens, cushion covers, wardrobe panels, etc bring the warmth of artisanal craft to stone, marble and concrete surfaces- creating a beautiful, tactile contrast.

The Floral Urn

We picked beads, sequins and threads in our favourite palette, and our artisans handcrafted these everlasting flowers. A beautiful mix of traditional techniques give every single petal its own distinct texture. Arrange these blooms in a vase to create a striking centrepiece, and a sure-shot conversation starter.

The Golden Dragon

The perfect opportunity for a designer to introduce texture, dimension and craftsmanship into a curated room. Our artisans meticulously hand-embroidered this motif using zardozi– a technique once reserved for royalty. Set against a plush velvet cushion cover, we love the shift in mood it brings with it.

The Hummingbirds

A hand-embroidered cushion cover created with the belief that everyday objects can be works of art. It balances classical techniques, mixed media and modern texture- a piece that makes people stop and look closer.

The Figurines (A collaboration with Alexandra Browne)

Hand-embroidered by Ricamour for Alexandra Browne

A one-of-a-kind partnership inspired by the bygone elegance of the French Riviera. Alexandra creates hand-painted ceramic tiles where sleek figures sit, stretch or snooze- evoking warm beaches and lazy afternoons.

We fell in love with her signature aesthetic and recreated these figures using delicate thread embroidery and playful beadwork. Everything was handcrafted to match her obsession with quality and craft, translating her artwork onto linen napkins, lampshades, handbags and cushion covers. Understated, yet oozing style and playfulness.

We love how hand-embroidery in interiors and décor can become an anchor for stories, timelessness and mood.
